For rehearsals, Chris Difford and Glen Tilbrook of Squeeze showed up with electric guitars. Musical highlights include Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford of Squeeze performing a rendition of their classic hit ""Pulling Mussels From The Shell,"" as well as a song from their new album Frank, ""She Doesn't Have To Shave."" The show is hosted by singer/songwriter Jules Shear. The season premiere of ""MTV Unplugged"" features performances by British rockers Squeeze, solo artist Syd Straw, and Elliot Easton from The Cars. Several subsequent reunion tours followed (without Leadon or Meisner), notable for their record-setting ticket prices. For the induction ceremony, all seven Eagles members (Frey, Henley, Felder, Walsh, Schmit, Leadon and Meisner) played together for two songs, "Take It Easy" and "Hotel California". In 1998, the Eagles were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. While the tour was briefly interrupted in September 1994 due to Frey's serious recurrence of diverticulitis, it resumed in 1995 and continued into '96. The album itself proved as successful as the reunion tour, selling 6 million copies in the U.S. The ensuing tour spawned a live album titled Hell Freezes Over (named for Henley's recurring statement that the group would get back together "when hell freezes over") which debuted at #1 on the Billboard album chart, and included 4 new studio songs, with "Get Over It" and "Love Will Keep Us Alive" both becoming Top 40 hits. "For the record, we never broke up, we just took a 14-year vacation", announced Frey at their first live performance in April 1994. The lineup comprised the five Long Run-era members – Frey, Henley, Walsh, Felder and Schmit – supplemented by additional musicians: Scott Crago (drums), John Corey (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals), Timothy Drury (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals) and Al Garth (sax, violin) on stage. After the "Take It Easy" video was completed the following year, and following years of public speculation, the band finally formally reunited. Travis Tritt insisted on having the Long Run-era Eagles in his video for "Take It Easy" and they agreed. Hers is still one of the defining female voices in rock. Her songwriting suaveness no longer comes from the "Brass In Pocket"-styled brashness of yesteryear, but from a more tenured and wizened stance. ![]() But when the punches behind "I Hurt You" or the sinister "Private Life" come in, it becomes apparent that Hynde and her Pretenders have only gotten stronger as their journey has progressed.Ĭhrissie Hynde has matured into one of the foremothers of contemporary pop. With the exquisite string arrangements behind Hynde classics like "Back On The Chain Gang" and "Kid," it is obvious that this is a new Pretenders, a more luxurious and elaborate affair. Her songs come off wise and womanly, not as brash as the post-punk rantings of The Pretenders' first albums. What could be a better vehicle for Chrissie Hynde's gorgeous vocals and impeccably arranged songs than the acoustically tinged live set captured on THE ISLE OF VIEW? Better than a greatest hits compilation, the album shows a sense of maturity for Ms. Recorded live at Jacob Street Studios, London, England in May 1995.
